Rehearsal 1 - 6th December

Rehearsal 1 - 6th December

In todays lesson we started rehearsing, the people that were in scene one were rehearsing with Mrs and the others were going outside reading through their scenes in groups. I then wacthed the rehersals and did the peer assesment sheet. I assed Beau as John Tate and Kim as Danny, for Beau I think she should try to be more confident, make his own decisions and when getting the lines wrong just carry on without getting out of role. For Kim I said she was in role, serious in her acting and making her own desicions.

I think we are opening the play with this song ^^ because in the song it says 'Robert's got a quick hand. He'll look around the room, he wont tell you his plan' This song is related to our play DNA because in the play there is a character called Phil, Phil is a quiet person, when someone is talking to him he looks around the room and acts like he doesnt care about anything but then at the end he has this really good plan. Also in the song it says 'All the toher kids you better run, better run, faster than my bullet.' This also tells us that in the play a tragic insident has happend and its not only one person who knows but all the other kids know so they better run fast and not get esposex.

The advantge of using this stage space is that the stage is not too big or too small so as the audience is at the front, left and right it makes it easier for us to comunicate with the audience. The Disadvantage of using the stage is that there is not much room to move and its quiet easy to be in a position where the audience may not understand what you are doing.

The challenges i think i will have with using the space stage is that trying to remeber where the places are for example down stage right centre. Also in my oppionion I think sometime no everyone likes to be in the centre or right at the back of the stage so if Mrs was to direct me somewhere on the stage where I did not prefere then it would be a different challenge for me, using different places.

Workshop 4 - 28th November

Workshop 4 - 28th November

In todays lesson we had to audtion for the parts we wanted in DNA. I really enjoyed the lesson because we were all watching eachother act in different characters and choosing who sutited the character the most. I audition for the charcter Lou, I chose Lou because I thought she wasn't the main charcter or the unknown charcter but in the middle so i thought this went really well with me.

When we was watching different people audtion for different parts we had to write down who sutited the character the most and write down notes. It was quiet tricky because everyone was good at what they were doing. I think the whole class was really good because everyone was really confident and serious.

D.N.A: Workshop 3- 22nd Novemeber 2012

I think its important to show 'truth' on stage because when acting you want the audience to feel your character and for them to see you are serious and in role. I also think that because the play D.N.A is based on real story it makes us feel more attached and enggaged knowing that this happens in real life.
we played the game 'i dont believe you' because we wanted to make the audience belive in your acting and to feel your acting. When the audience say "I don't believe you" the person that was acting would improve in the facial expresion and body language.
When it was Skye's turn he had to act out as if he just found out that he's got canser. Skye came in the room in role and made us audience feel his emotion. He came in the room and locked the door, locking the door showed us that he did not want to speak to anyone. He then walked slowly to his chair and sat down without saying or doing anything. his body language was really low and his facial expressions was really upset and hurt. Sky was able to show truth by not speaking, if Sky was to speak it would of made his character out of role. I think this because in acting you dont have to speak just to make your role perfect but sometimes without speaking it makes the act much better.
Non verbal connection is where you send and recieve messages without talking. Me and my partner Sonia decided to act out Sonia is at the Hospital waiting for the doctors to tell her that her mum is alright. Sonia was sitting on the chair and i come in as the doctor without talking to her put telling her that her mum passed away, Sonia then slowly gets up and starts crying and shouting i then try to give her a glass of water but she knocks out of my hand showing that she is really devestated and then she sits down and starts to scream but then i try to calm her down. We made our role play truthful by not breaking the tension, for example if Sonia was to get the chair and kick it or push me really hard it ruins the act. I think Ersula and Tyer's role play was good because i think there one was different to the other groups, they acted out as if Tyler was breaking up with Ersula. Even though the other groups were similar Tyler and Ersula's role play was different but similar at the same time because there situiation was different but it was still heart breaking.

Stanislavski

He was born Konstantin Sergeevich Alekseev on January 5, 1863, in Moscow, Russia. His father, Sergei Alekseev, was a wealthy Russian merchant. His mother, Elisaveta Vasilevna was French-Russian and his grandmother was a notable actress in Paris. He was fond of theatre and arts, studied piano and singing. He did not graduate, instead he continued self-education while traveling in several European countries and studying at libraries and museums.

In 1885 he studied acting and directing at the Maly Theatre in Moscow, and took a stage name Stanislavski. In 1888 he founded the "Society for Arts and Literature" in Moscow. Stanislavski's system was developed through his own cross-cultural experience as actor, director, and businessman. He constantly updated his method through inter-disciplinary studies. He introduced group rehearsals and relaxation techniques to achieve better spiritual connections between actors. As an actor, Stanislavski starred in several classical plays. His most notable stage performances, such as Othello in the Shakespeare's 'Othello', and as Gayev in Chekhov's 'The Cherry Orchard', were acclaimed by critics and loved by public. In 1928 Stanislavski suffered from a heart attack.

In the 1930s, Stanislavski formed one more theatrical company in Moscow, the Musical Theatre of Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko. During the 1930s Konstantin Stanislavski directed the original productions of several classic Russian plays, such as "Na Dne" (aka.. The Lower Depths) by Maxim Gorky, "Tsar Fedor Ioannovich" by A.K. Tolstoy, and other plays at the Moscow Art Theatre. After Stanislavski's death his original theatrical productions were adapted to black and white films, where Stanislavsky is credited as the original theatrical director. He died of a heart failure on August 7, 1938, in Moscow and was laid to rest in Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow, Russia.

Leah's feeling inside..

A subtext is when thoughts are not expressed directly such as emotions and tension. It is the unspoken feelings or emotions inside the character. We worked with subtext on our monolgue because it made it more easy for us to understand the charcter's feeling. I understood the character more because at first we were just annliseing what she was saying through her mouth but when we annilised what she was thinking inside it was more clear and more understanding.

I think it's impotant for us to have a truthful performance in our performance DNA because our play is based on true story. What we are doing in our play happens in real life this makes us more seroius and determined to our project. Also the audience would be more engaged in our acting if they saw us being truthful and serious.

Lesson 2- 15th Novemeber 2012!

Lesson 2- 15th Novemeber 2012

1) In groups of 5 we had to do a 1 minute version on the play 'DNA'. We did this to make us understand the play more. It helped me more because when we was reading the script it was confusing but working in groups made it less confusing and i understood it more. I noticed that all the pieces were quiet similar, in all the groups the Postman was mentioned but was never seen as in the play the Postman is described and mentioned alot but wasn't seen at all. I think the Postman is very important in the play becuase their is tension with the Posman, in the play all the charaters talk about him but he is never seen this makes the play more intresting making the audience more attached and questioned.

2) In my group we focused on Brian, we did this exercise to make us understand the character more. When reading the script i was confused of Brian's reaction and speaking but when we wrote and spoke about Brian I then understood how his feeling were and what kind of a person he was.

3) I think a Backstory is something that has happend to you or has happend in the past and and has affected you in the present and maybe in the future. In my oppionion i think it is important for actors to understand their character's backstory because if you was to be acting out someone that is lonely, heartbroken and has had a bad past  you wouldn't just show it from the facial expression and body language, the important thing is to be really attached to your character so your acting could be stronger and would makde the audience more entertained. In my group we had a boy, father, and 4 sisters. The father was at home watching T.V whilst the two sister were putting eachothers make up on and the other two sisters were clapping and laughing around, then the boy came in and started talking to his father but his father was being mean, rude and cruel. The sisters were laughing at their brother and not caring about him, we then finsihed it of by one sister says, "Dad i need a new mascara." and the dad says "okay honey" Our finishing scene showed the audience that the boy has a rubbish life and no one cares about him.

Another group did a girl that was trying to socialize with her mum, dad and friends but they were all egnoring her and talking behind her back. The piece was effective because the staging was good so it made us audience more clear of what was going on.

4) In my oppionion i think when your young your parents teach whats right and whats wrong but then when you start to get older you start to know your self of the things around and being responsible for your ractions and behaviour. I also think that if you was to have bad parenting since you was young then i think it could affect your future by not going school, getting into gangs and in trouble wiht the police, whereas, is you was to have good parenting from young age then you are more likely to have a good future.

First lesson of DNA play!

My first response to the play was confused at first but then I understood the play towards the end.
I like the play because its humerus and interesting because the play is mainly amied on children than adults.
I think all characters are quiet similar but still different in the same way; like fore example Leah, is quiet a confused girl that is mostly repetitive. Also Phil, he is a different character because at the first few scenes he is known as a quite person and someone that doesn't care of what's going around but then towards the end he all of a sudden becomes the clever one out of the group and surprises the audience.
In my oppinion I think the theme of the text is informal, confusing and mainly aimed for young children and not for adults. I think it's aimed for young children because most teenagers speak like how the characters do in the play but whereas adults are more formal and serious.

The most thing I am looking forward to this project is working and socialising more with everyone, different stageing, different acting, props and different costumes.
I think the challenges of this project will be us learing and remembering our words, positioning, costumes and props.
