Analyzing Picture 1

In this picture we are standing in role, here we have Danny, Richard, Brian, Jan, Mark, Cathy and Mark 2. Each character is different, for example in the picture George as Mark has his arm crossed and looks like a serious character where as Cathy (Andrea) is playing with her hair and on her phone which shows she may be a loud character. This shows us the differences between the characters and just by looking at the characters we could tell who is high and who is low. some of us are on our phones, playing with our hair or clothes etc. It was very important for us to stay in role even if we were not on stage. this is because as long as the audience can still see you, you still have to be in role and never come out of character. I was playing with my 'ring', hair and uniform.

Theatre Evaluation
Thursday was our show day, we all have worked really hard and everyone became closer.  We all worked together, helped each other and put all of our effort in it, we all had our stressful times and fun times but overall I really enjoyed DNA. DNA showed all of us that we can’t always be the main character and in the center attention. I enjoyed acting as my character Lou, Lou was a different character to act with. She is quiet girl that is confused, unsure and a bit dopey. But overall I think the character Lou was a cool girl to act with.  Also, I think everyone took their roles very serious and everyone was determined but the main character I thought that was very patient and calm throughout the whole rehearsals of DNA is Daniel. I think this because Daniel was quite segregated from us because the characters and the audience don’t see him until scene three so this meant that Daniel wasn't in the opening sequence and isn't seen until scene three where he appears with everyone shocked. Also, I think he was very patient to watch all of us rehearse but when it came to scene 3 Daniel gave his best and did a great job of acting as Adam.

What I liked about our setting was that we had a swing and a bench, just having a swing and a bench showed the audience that the setting was a park. I particularly really enjoyed our opening sequence because having ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ as the music was perfect and when changing the characters the music was good, it had a good tempo in it and it made the audience more engaged with the play. The lyrics went along with our play and it showed the audience who was who and that there is more than 1 character sharing just one character. Our costumes I really thought it was clever. With our costumes it made it easier for the audience to see that the characters are young and still go to school. I also think that our costumes helped us act better and be more in character; I know this because I think when we wore our clothes it made it easier for me to be in role and to understand the character Lou more. I know this by during my scene I was not only playing with my ring but playing with my uniform; I was playing with my jacket, tie and skirt. But when I was not wearing the uniform it was quite tricky because I only had to play with my ring and focus more on my facial expression and body language. Also, I was more engaged and attached to the character Lou. The props we used were really good, we used; food and drinks for Phil, mouthwash for Danny, rings for Lou, hats and jackets for Richard and Brian etc. We used these props to make the scenes and character’s more effective and more realistic.  Our strengthens of our performance were the actors, we had really good actors taking their acting and character extremely serious, this made the performance really strong because  I think if an actor is losing focus then the audience starts to get really bored and the focus fades away but we had really good acting taking part. Our weakness of the performance I think was our setting, I think the setting could have been more realistic to make it more comfortable for us to be in role and even more engaged in the play. We could have painted the walls or drew trees on pieces of paper and stick it on the wall and we could have got a big cardboard and drew a huge tree and place it right next to the bench to make it more realistic.

Overall I really enjoyed working on DNA. Everyone got along with each other, every one helped out each other and we all had fun rehearsing for DNA.  I look forward for next term doing a new topic.

D.N.A Rehearsal

In today's lesson we did a run through. We wore our school uniforms, everything looked really good and in character. The characters that really impressed my were T.J and Sky. They both share the same character 'Richard'. T.J and Sky dressed up exactly the same by baggy school trousers, their shirt tucked in but some of it out, their collar up, tie very un formal and a Yankee hat this is to make the audience understand who is who.

My character Lou wears a school uniform with her hair up neat and tidy, she wears a a hooded jackets. We specifically did this so its easier to see which character is Lou as there is 3 Lou's and as all of us are wearing school uniform it would be confusing. We have also still kept the idea of the Ring, in the scenes all the Lou's have a ring and we always play with it, this is also again is to show the audience that the characters that have a ring and that is always playing with the ring must be Lou. In my opinion, i think when we wore our clothes today it made it easier for me to be in role and to understand the character Lou more. I know this by during my scene i was not only playing with my ring but playing with my uniform, i was playing with my jacket, tie and skirt. But when i was not wearing the uniform it was quite tricky because i only had to play with my ring and focus more on my facial expression and body language.

All the scenes went really well, everyone was in role and were really serious. After, we went for a break and we worked on our opening directions and the character swapping scenes. It was really fun because everyone was enjoying the time listening to 'Pumped Up Kicks'. The swapping character was good and fun, we had to make sure we knew when to change and to do be in role every time, before and after the opening sequence we stand behind the audience and stay in character through out the time and not try get distracted by the music and whats going on on stage.

D.N.A Rehearsal 5- 17th January

D.N.A Rehearsal 5- 17th January

Today we did the moments of change over. The change overs that we did was Lauren comes in from one corner and I come from the opposite corner and she hands me a ring and then I get into my starting position. The audience will understand that there is more than one character and that they are changing. For example; Lauren in scene 2, she plays with the ring and then when its my scene she gives me the ring and so the audience will understand that we are the same character.

3 targets for next lesson;

  1. More focused.
  2. Concentrate more when watching the other Lou's acting to help me.

D.N.A Rehearsal 4- 10th January

D.N.A Rehearsal 4- 10th January

In today's lesson we first started of with the opening sequence. Me and my group changed the whole sequence. We changed it by me, Stevanie and Lauren come in from the corners with a ballerina box, we sit down and take a special ring out and play with it, then we take out a few things and play with them and then we take out a picture and in the picture its Lou and her mum but then we rip it up because her mum left her. Lastly, we pick the ring up and put it on our finger and then we stand up and walk of he stage from where we came in from, whilst we do this we play with the ring. In our scenes all three of us play with our rings to make it easier for the audience to understand that there are 3 Lou's.

D.N.A Rehearsal 3- 20th December

D.N.A Rehearsal 3- 20th December

In today's lesson we did a whole run through. I thought that the run through was really good but there are a few things missing. Some of us are struggling to learn lines and so Miss has to keep telling the lines to us. The play looks really good, I think that everyone suit there characters. Everyone takes their role serious and they enjoy it. When watching Lauren and Stevanie play as Lou it helps me because it shows me how to act and do the same thing as them so the audience see's that there are 3 Lou's.

D.N.A Rehearsal 2- 13th December

D.N.A Rehearsal 2- 13th December

In today's lesson we blocked the scenes. I watched scene 1 and 2. The scenes were really good, most people remembered their lines and their positions that they had to do. Watching the other characters that play my character helps me a lot because it shows me how to act so the audience knows that there is 3 Lou's. When it was scene 3, Miss directed me and the other characters. It was fun but some people were struggling to remember their lines and positions, this made the scene confusing because miss had to keep stopping and telling some of our lines and positions.

After wards, we did dome writing in role. In my diary i wrote;

Dear diary,
                    Today was just shocking. I mean I didn't want to get involved. I'm scared, shocked and really                        confused. What if I get in really big trouble! I just wish this was all a dream but its not. Why is this happening?. I'm just really confused why couldn't everyone just be nice to each other. I mean I've never done anything like this before, like everyone knows me as the dopey, foolish and curious Lou. If I tell other people I know they will hate me and be disgusted in me. I hate this! I really do! I'm so upset, I just wish everything was just a dream... I'm scared...
